For almost ten years, we have been working closely with a major player in the food industry. This long-term partnership has enabled us to apply our know-how to the integration of evaporators at several of their production sites, with a view to sustainability.
A new strategic phase from 2022
Since 2022, this partnership has taken a new step forward with a clear objective: to concentrate different types of sugars by evapo-concentration, in order to reduce energy consumption and lower the carbon footprint of industrial processes.
The principle ?
Eliminate water by evaporation to obtain a sweet product with the precise concentration required, while recovering and recycling the energy used during the process.
To meet this challenge, we designed and implemented a set of 5 evaporators, coupled with 5 Mechanical Vapor Recompressors (MVRs), for maximum energy recovery.
A significant carbon footprint
The results are as high as the stakes:
- 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ saved every year,
- That’s the equivalent of 15,000 round-trip flights from Paris to New York.
These performances demonstrate the relevance of a well-mastered technology, applied to existing industrial sectors, with immediate benefits for the climate.
Multiple, high value-added applications
The concentrated sugars obtained are not simply used in the food industry. They find varied and strategic outlets:
- In the manufacture of pharmaceutical excipients, where purity and concentration are essential,
- In the food industry, notably for the production of iconic sweets loved by all,
- In industry, as a substitute component in cement manufacture, replacing more polluting raw materials.
A direct contribution to cleaner industry
This project is a concrete example of how our technologies, when properly integrated into industrial processes, can :
- Significantly reduce energy consumption,
- Limit greenhouse gas emissions,
- And to give a second life to products, in a logic of circular valorization.
